No result in India vs. Pakistan due to rain

India-Pakistan’s Saturday Asia Cup Group A match in Kandy was called a No Result due to rain. India scored 266 after winning the toss and not a single ball was bowled in the second innings.

Each of the teams will get a point. Pakistan has three points after defeating Nepal in their first game. Nepal will face India on September 4.

India scored a respectable 266 thanks to an attritional 138-run stand for the fifth wicket between Ishan Kishan (82 from 81 balls) and Hardik Pandya (87 from 90).

The Pakistani speed trio of Shaheen Shah Afridi (10-2-35-4), Naseem Shah (8.5-0-36-3), and Haris Rauf (9-0-58-3) gave India a rough start, putting them at 66 for four after 14.1 overs.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, was the first to be dismissed after hitting a pair of assured boundaries off Afridi to the on side, showing that he was ready to meet the ball coming in. Afridi, though, improved the length of his delivery after the first rain delay and softened Sharma with a few deliveries that drifted away from him. Sharma was bowled for 11 when he finally got one to move in a little.

By putting his left foot forward and smashing Shah for four over the covers, Virat Kohli made a move for the attack. But in the next Afridi over, he was also out, perhaps unluckily, when an inside edge struck the stumps while he was on four.

The top four Indian players were back in the cabin after Rauf eliminated Shreyas Iyer (14) and Shubman Gill (10) from the game. The ship was then steadied by Kishan and Pandya.

Kishan and Pandya restrained their attacking tendencies as they dealt with the Pakistani spinners Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, and Salman Agha, followed by the fast bowlers in the damp conditions, and gradually developed their relationship.
