Pakistan’s Great Slams The Breakup Of The Babar Azam-Mohammad Rizwan Pair, Asking “What Benefit Did You Get?”

After the squad lost the Twenty20 International Series (T20I) against New Zealand, veteran Pakistani cricketer and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Raja questioned the selectors over the decision to split the team’s renowned opening duo of Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan. With two matches remaining in the T20I series against the Kiwis, Pakistan is now down 3-0. Pakistan has been starting the series with new openers Saim Ayub and Mohammed Rizwan, who haven’t done well together so far.

Raja expressed himself on his YouTube channel, saying, “There was a lot of pressure to break the opening pair, Babar and Rizwan. after the dissolution of the first partnership, which was assessed using the striking rate. New players may do well in league cricket, but international cricket is a different animal entirely, with pressure and global attention focused on you. You shattered the first pair, which gained international fame.”

“When everything else fails, you either have a workshop of skilled openers behind you who are being presented piecemeal. The formation of an opening pair takes time. That is not a simple process. “So, what advantage did you receive after breaking it if you had a pair and they regularly kept you on the field during matches?” he continued.

In addition, he said that he supports all captains, Shaheen Shah Afridi, the captain of the T20I team at the moment.

It was alleged against me that I had supported Babar Azam. I believe in all captains because they have a responsibility to lead not just on the field during play but also off it “said Raja.

Together, Rizwan and Babar have scored 2,779 runs at an average of 48.75, including nine hundreds and eleven fifty-run partnerships, making them the greatest run duo in T20I history.

This Friday’s fourth Twenty20 International between the two teams will be played in Christchurch.
