On the first day of the Ranchi Test, India defeats England by three wickets on debut, with lunchtime totaling 112/5

On the first day of the fourth Test here on Friday, fast bowler Akash Deep had a fantastic debut, taking three wickets to help India reduce England to 112 for 5 at lunchtime.

After a no-ball loss, 27-year-old Akash Deep (3/24), making his Test debut in lieu of pace leader Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested, rebounded to remove Ben Duckett (11), Ollie Pope (0), and Zak Crawley (42) to left England reeling at 57 for 3.

Before being stranded in front by Ravichandran Ashwin (1/17) after Jonny Bairstow hammered a 35-ball 38 with four boundaries and a six.

India controlled the opening session till skipper Ben Stokes (3) was removed by Ravindra Jadeja (1/28), plumb LBW.

At the interval, Joe Root (16 not out) was at the crease.

India is up 2-1 in the five-match Test series.
