Referee Howard Webb has taken action to prevent a repeat of the Liverpool VAR error

In order to prevent a repetition of the VAR blunder that resulted in a valid Liverpool goal against Tottenham Hotspur being disallowed, Howard Webb, the head of referees, stated precautions had been made.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) acknowledged that VAR erred in determining that Luis Diaz was offside when he scored what should have been the game’s first goal in the Anfield team’s 2-1 defeat.

Diaz was in-side, but PGMOL said that the goal was disallowed because VAR “lost sight of the on-field decision” and miscommunicated “check complete”.

As a result of what transpired between Spurs and Liverpool, Webb said, “We evaluated the issue and looked at what we can do better to put some protections in place. In the Mic.

“Over the following days, we worked arduously to examine what we needed to do to implement those safeguards around the communication to prevent that sort of thing from occurring.”

When questioned about why the referee was unable to halt the match after play had resumed, Webb said that it was too late for the VAR and his assistant to step in.

They acknowledged that the rules of the game, established by FIFA and the IFAB (the organization that creates soccer’s rules), prohibit it, Webb said.

There is undoubtedly a procedure in place that follows the rules of the game… And it prevents you from returning under such conditions.
