Reprimanded for violating the WPL Code of Conduct against the UP Warriors, a pacer for the Delhi Capitals

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) Code of Conduct was broken by Delhi Capitals pacer Arundhati Reddy on Monday, February 26 at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium during her team’s match against UP Warriorz (UPW). As a result, the BCCI scolded Reddy. After Reddy dismissed Poonam Khemnar in the 15th over of the innings, she was hauled up for her dramatic farewell to the UPW batter.

Khemnar was caught off guard by Reddy’s slower delivery, as the batter’s ramp shot was only able to reach the short third-man fielder. After dismissing Khemnar, Reddy came up with a fiery send-off, roaring and gesturing for her to get off the field.

“Arundhati admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match,” the statement read. Reddy acknowledged committing the Level 1 offense and was fined 10% of her match fees.

Reddy may have received criticism, but she has made a strong start to her Capitals career. Against the Mumbai Indians in the tournament’s opening match, she claimed a few wickets and then scalped UP. The Capitals were clinical against the Warriorz, limiting them to just 119/9 and then chasing it down in just 14.3 overs with 9 wickets in the bag. However, they lost in a thrilling match against the reigning champions.

South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp stole the show for the Capitals with the ball as she dismissed the Warriorz’s entire top order in a four-over spell while only conceding five runs. Warriorz’s innings was fruitless as Radha Yadav struck for four runs in the next over.

After smashing their respective fifties, Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning almost led the team to victory in their opening partnership before the latter was defeated by Sophie Ecclestone. The first point went to the Capitals, while the Warriorz suffered their second defeat of the competition.
