“Rohit carried out a benchmark that Virat had set”: Rahul on Rohit-Kohli’s leadership

KL Rahul claims that following his gut has helped him succeed as the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. LSG made it to the playoffs in each of the first two years under Rahul’s leadership, and they have a chance to win the IPL 2024 and go on to make it three straight.

Rahul captained the Punjab Kings for two seasons prior to leading LSG, however, he was unable to advance them to the playoffs. The right-hander, who has previously led India, believes he has found balance by following his instincts and paying attention to the team’s management.

“Choosing players and important places in the auction that you can’t afford to miss are crucial when assembling a squad. “I am not ashamed to admit that in my first few years as captain, I made a few mistakes as well,” he said on the YouTube channel of his colleague R Ashwin from India. Rahul has previously partnered with Andy Flower and Anil Kumble, in addition to head coach Justin Langer.

“As you captain, a ton of information is pouring in. one to choose and one to pass up based on your intuition rather than the advice of the coaches. At first, it was challenging to defy that, as we are conditioned to revere our elders. Things did not go as planned for some reason, and I was having trouble falling asleep. I now realize that developing a relationship and trust with the coaches is just as important as with the players. We have similar goals in mind.”

Rahul said, “Rohit brought a sense of calmness in the dressing room,” when questioned about the differences between previous captain Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma’s methods of leading India. The passion doesn’t change. People’s understanding of their duties and the time to acclimate to them are also beneficial.Virat had already established the standard for behaviour on the field, and Rohit continued with a modicum of composure.”

He also referred to Kane Williamson and M. S. Dhoni as the real gentlemen of cricket.
