Shane Dowrich Declares His Retirement from Cricket International

Veteran batter-wickekeeper Shane Dowrich has withdrew from the West Indies team for the next One-Day International (ODI) series against England and announced his immediate retirement from international cricket.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) made the announcement of Dowrich’s resignation in a statement on Thursday.

In 2015, Dowrich made his debut for his country in a match against Australia in Dominica. In 2018, he participated in 35 Test matches and amassed 1,570 runs, including three century and a career-high 125 not out against Sri Lanka in Trinidad. He had five stumpings and eighty-five catches behind the wickets. According to the statement, he also participated in one One-Day International in Ireland in May 2019.

Dowrich’s contribution to West Indies cricket was acknowledged by CWI, who also wished him well in his future endeavors.

“We are grateful for Shane’s efforts throughout his time as a West Indies player. He is a dedicated, disciplined cricket player who has always given it his all both in front of and behind the wickets. Director of Cricket at CWI Miles Bascombe stated, “He had a memorable series in 2019 when he made an outstanding Test century on home soil in Barbados to help us beat England and win the Wisden Trophy.”

“We acknowledge that retiring is not an easy choice to make and respect his decision to do so. As he exits the global arena, we wish him the very best,” he said.

The roster includes of 14 players, and the CWI Selection Panel will not designate a substitute for the three-match Series. There will be three matches in the ODI series. Two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on December 3 and December 6 will kick off the trip. While the second ODI is a day/night game, the first is a day game.

The third and final ODI, which takes place at Kensington Oval on December 9, takes the trip to Barbados. There will be a battle for both day and night.
