Shubman Gill will not play against Afghanistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the BCCI has said

Shubman Gill has been excluded from India’s next World Cup match against Afghanistan because he is still receiving medical care in Chennai. The match is scheduled for this Wednesday. On Monday, the Indian squad traveled from Chennai to Delhi, but Gill, who was sick for the World Cup opener against Australia, remained behind.

The BCCI said that Gill was feeling under the weather before to the Australia game but did not provide any more details.

The board has announced that squad India batter Shubman Gill will not be accompanying the squad to Delhi on October 9, 2023.

“The opening batter is expected to miss the team’s next match against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11 after missing the team’s initial match in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai.

He will remain in Chennai and be under the care of the medical staff.

Ishan Kishan took the position of the right-handed Gill for the India-Australia match, which India won by a margin of six wickets. Before K L Rahul and Virat Kohli completed a game-winning 165-run partnership, Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer were all dismissed without scoring.

The 24-year-old Gill, who has five ODI hundreds to his record this year, has been in fantastic form over the last 12 months. If India wants to win the trophy back after a 12-year absence, he is anticipated to be of critical importance.
