State units will get compensation during the bilateral home season for World Cup matches missed: BCCI

The forthcoming home season will provide the locations that lost out on hosting ODI World Cup matches the option to host 50-over matches out of turn.

To make up for the states that didn’t get to host the coveted ICC event, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah proposed that World Cup locations give up their right to stage ODI matches during the home season.

Shah notified the state units in a letter that eight World Cup locations, including Delhi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, had unanimously approved his plan.

However, matches will be played in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram in the following season instead of Thiruvananthapuram, which would only host warm-up games during the World Cup.

Prior to this week’s release of the World Cup schedule, Shah attended meetings with state agencies.

“During our discussion, I had put out a proposal to make sure that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches were distributed fairly. I asked the hosting organisations to willingly forgo their chance to host an ODI during the bilateral international season, with the exception of Assam and Kerala, who were given warm-up matches.

“This idea was made in order to accommodate the state associations that regrettably were unable to host Cricket World Cup games.

Shah said in the letter seen by PTI, “I am pleased to inform you that the proposal received unanimous approval and support from all the participating associations.”

India will host the World Cup from October 5 to November 19.

Except for Hyderabad, each of the major stadiums will get to host five matches in the ICC 50-over championship.

Pakistan will play in two exhibition games in Hyderabad before three major matches begin on October 6.

Two of Pakistan’s league games will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.
