The India Women’s Cricket Team’s Head Coach Amol Muzumdar is about to be named

Amol Muzumdar, a household name, is expected to be named the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team after making the most impression on the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) during the interviews of the shortlisted candidates in Mumbai on Monday.

The 90-minute presentation by Muzumdar impressed the CAC, which was made up of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik.

Jon Lewis, a former head coach of Durham, and Tushar Arothe, a former head coach of India who resigned in 2018, were the other candidates that underwent interviews.

The change comes only days before India’s visit of Bangladesh gets underway. Since Ramesh Powar’s dismissal in December of last year, India has been without a head coach.

“Amol’s presentation, who was very clear in his plans for the women’s team, most impressed the CAC,” said the CAC. He was by far the greatest presentation, while the other ones were also excellent. He’ll likely get a recommendation for the position, a BCCI insider told PTI.

The only one who showed up in person for the interview was Muzumdar, who most recently served as the head coach of the Mumbai Ranji squad and has previously worked with the South African national team and IPL club Rajasthan Royals.

Beginning on July 9, Muzumdar’s first task will be a tour throughout Bangladesh. In Mirpur, India will play the same number of ODIs and T20s.

The Indian women’s team has often lost crucial games from winning positions during the last five years, but they have not yet won a global championship.

Muzumdar, who is most likely to sign a two-year deal, will be held accountable for leading the side to the coveted ICC championship in Bangladesh when the T20 World Cup is held there in September-October of next year.

India’s failure to win crucial games, most notably in the T20 World Cup semifinal against Australia earlier this year, highlights the need for the new head coach to concentrate on the players’ physical health in addition to their mental toughness.

The women’s cricket squad has a lot of room for growth in terms of fitness. Some of the national team players absolutely need to improve their physical condition. Muzumdar also emphasised the need of having a complete support team, which should include a mental trainer.

The Board representative said, “He is completely aware of what our team needs to go on to the next level.

Muzumdar has another advantage since the next two women’s ICC tournaments will be held in Bangladesh and India.

In September 2025, India will play host to the women’s ODI World Cup.

“With an Indian coach, communication is never an issue, and he also has extensive playing experience in sub-continental conditions,”

In first-class cricket, Muzumdar scored more than 11,167 runs, however despite his impressive total, he was never selected for the Indian side.
