PCB Reaches Out to Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer for Pakistan Coaching Position: Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in communication with a number of international coaches, including Justin Langer and Gary Kirsten, to serve as head coach of the national side on a long-term contract after Shane Watson declined the job.

The “Jang” tabloid claims that prominent figures like Phil Simmons, Eoin Morgan, Matthew Hayden, Mike Hesson, Langer, and Kirsten have been approached by the PCB.

The T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy are two ICC competitions that the PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, said he wants international coaching and support personnel to work with the Pakistani side.

The previous chairman of the PCB, Zaka Ashraf, had chosen to choose former players from inside the country as coaches instead of overseas coaches Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick after the World Cup in India.

By mutual consent, the international coaches were freed from their contracts after three months of pay.

“Someone on the board acknowledged that others are very hesitant to accept any offer from the PCB because of the PCB’s poor track record in appointing and sacking coaches—foreign and local — in the past.”
