“Trying to Keep Up with the Strike Rate,” Virat Kohli believes that “Quality Over Quantity” is the best approach

In the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 60 runs. Virat Kohli was in a contemplative mood as he set aside his critical hat and accepted that he was deliberately “trying to keep up with the strike rate.”

As PBKS (8) could only muster a maximum of 12 points from the last two games, they were eliminated from the playoff race. This was RCB’s fourth straight victory, bringing them to 10 points.

After being dropped on 0 and 10, Kohli skillfully timed the ball and utilized his wrists and feet to get his sixth IPL fifty of the year. After hitting his target in 32 balls, he hammered another 40 in the following 15 balls. Six maximums and seven fours were smashed by him.

After being named the “player of the match,” Virat said at the post-game press conference that he prefers quality to quantity and gave an explanation of his “different” strategy while facing spinners.

“Quality still wins out for me over quantity. It works pretty nicely for me. Additionally, once you understand the game, you may practice less and simply attempt to perform what I have done in the past. Continue to work on the areas of the game where you wish to grow better. It’s a dynamic process, according to Kohli.

“In opposition to the spinners, I pulled out the slogsweep. I know I’ve hit it before, even though I didn’t practice. Constantly seeking to reveal that side of the field in opposition to spin. I understand that taking chances requires some conviction. I’ve been able to avoid thinking about it. For myself and the squad, I’m trying to maintain the strike rate,” he said.

Even Kohli conceded that RCB was not competitive in the first half of the competition. He went on to say that the pivotal moment came during the bowling display against Kolkata.

The great batsman continued by saying that RCB still has some work to do since they need a few more outcomes to go their way.

“We must be honest with ourselves if we want to survive a tournament. We just had an open discussion, despite our recent string of defeats. It was time to put on our stockings. The match versus KKR was quite close. Our goal was to compete for our own dignity. We just cannot play in such a manner and let our supporters down. We are back on track and have more confidence now, said Kohli.
