Warner selects two of the Delhi Capitals’ best hitters and offers his thoughts on the “Impact Player” rule

David Warner, the opening batsman for the Delhi Capitals and Australia, named the two young batters from the team who have most impressed him thus far in the 2024 Indian Premier League.

The Delhi Capitals have three wins, five defeats, and six points after three games to hold them in eighth place in the standings. On Saturday, they suffered a defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

At a press conference held in Delhi for the media, Warner said that the two batters who have most impressed him are Abhishek Porel of India and Jake Fraser McGurk of the Delhi Capitals.

Jake has performed well. He’s always been gifted. Abhishek has also performed well. He got the chance to bat as an impact player during the match against Punjab, and he scored almost thirty runs in nine balls (32* in ten balls). He will play at the highest standard. Warner said, “He played well against SRH the other day, scoring a quickfire 42 in a 267-run chase.”

Fraser, an Australian, has amassed 140 runs with a strike rate of 222.22, an average of 46.66, two fifties, and a top score of 65 in three games. In seven innings, Porel has scored 148 runs at an average of 29.60 with an SR of 162 or higher. 42 is his greatest score.

Regarding the Impact player rule, Warner emphasized that it is more important for teams to adjust to it and that it maximizes the potential of players who are on the bench.

“However, it is eliminating all-around players,” he said.

Regarding this year’s high-scoring IPL matches, Warner said that huge runs would come from outstanding batsmen playing on smooth wickets with low boundaries.

“Wickets were nice, flat and very firm. It is now present in Hyderabad and Kolkata in addition to Bengaluru. Hyderabad has consistently been a fantastic surface, he said.

Regarding his team’s performance, he said that they need to improve both with the bat and the ball since they are currently not where they should be.

“We got to win the remaining games to qualify for qualifying for playoffs,” he said.

Warner commented on his team’s patchy play with the ball, saying they sometimes miss the target and execute poorly.

“We have great bowling power if we can grab wickets quickly. We have an excellent bowling assault,” he said in closing.

At Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC will play the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the next IPL 2024.
