In May 2022, Symonds, a former all-rounder for Australia, passed away in a single-car accident at the age of 46.

Along with renowned Australian players Adam Gilchrist, Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Glenn McGrath, Stuart Clark, and Matthew Hayden, the footage also includes two-time World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting.

Cricket Australia uploaded a photo on the social networking site X (previously Twitter) with the description, “We asked a few of our friends to do it for us because we weren’t sure how to announce this year’s T20 World Cup squad.”

Earlier, Matilda, a girl, and Angus, a boy, were sent by New Zealand Cricket to unveil the country’s T20 World Cup lineup. The Black Caps had announced the New Zealand T20 World Cup roster on social media, saying, “Join special guests Matilda and Angus at the squad announcement for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.”

Returning to the Australian team for the T20 World Cup, Mitchell Marsh will serve as team captain. Despite his recent IPL 2024 heroics, Jake Fraser-McGurk has been overlooked and Steve Smith has been dropped. The Australian team that will compete in the four-week tournament that will be held in the USA and the West Indies does not include Jason Behrendorff or Matt Short.

George Bailey, the selection chair, discussed the notable exclusions and said that a number of talented cricket players were unfortunate to be left out of the 15-man roster.

Bailey added, “We had lengthy conversations with Steve Smith, Matt Short, Jason Behrendorff, Aaron Hardie, Spencer Johnson, and Xavier Bartlett, among a number of others, including Jake Fraser-McGurk, who hasn’t played T20 international cricket yet but is still impressing and growing quickly.”

Limiting oneself to a roster of 15 for a World Cup is a constant problem since there are so many various situations and possibilities we want to cover. We have the flexibility to alter our roster within the next month in compliance with ICC criteria. We will keep an eye on a few players that were left off of this preliminary squad. In the end, the composition of the final 15 players must provide the greatest opportunity for success in this campaign,” he said.

Mitch Marsh (captain), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa are the members of the Australia T20 World Cup team.
