“We must determine the best batting combinations”: Fleming, head coach of CSK

After their fourth defeat in eight games, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are prepared to allow players like Daryl Mitchell some time to establish themselves in the top three. The team is not searching for a “quick fix” to their batting problems.

All season long, CSK has been juggling hitters in the top three. Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad opened against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, while Mitchell moved up to No. 3 from No. 5. Gaikwad forced himself down to No. 3 in the last game.

Fleming said that they must adjust their batting lineups after their crushing home defeat at the hands of LSG. It involves both form and the search for that [combination]. After suffering their first home defeat of the season, Fleming said, “We’re a little uncomfortable with some areas, so we’re trying to find not a quick fix, but the right combination where players are going to contribute for the back end of this tournament.”

Mitchell, who cost R14 crore when purchased, has scored 146 runs in seven innings. No. 3 is the best location for the fellow New Zealander, according to Fleming. Of course, there’s a lot of pressure. He finds it more comfortable to pick up the order. It wasn’t his finest position for me to place him in the hitting role lower in the order. In order to correct that and move him up to the order where he has performed the best globally, we have been looking at that. The top three players must account for the bulk of runs, even if it can take some time.
