Why Tilak Varma Lifted His Jersey During the Asian Games Semifinal to Celebrate His Half-Century

Tilak Varma has explained why he inked his parents’ names on his shirt to mark his quickfire half-century. The young man was in excellent form as he scored an undefeated 55 off only 26 balls against Bangladesh in the men’s cricket Asian Games semifinal match in China.

India advanced to the gold-medal match with a thumping nine-wicket victory after chasing down the modest goal of 97 in only 9.2 overs.

Tilak scored his second six of his T20I career to register his second half-century. He then marked the occasion in a special fashion, which he dedicated to his mother since he had made a promise to her to hit a fifty or win India a match after going through a rough period.

He further said that Samaira, the daughter of Rohit Sharma, had joined him in his celebration.

Even then, Tilak had devoted his celebration of reaching his first T20I fifty on the West Indies trip to Samaira.

India, meanwhile, dominated Bangladesh earlier in the morning to go through to the Asian Games final. They had a scare when Nepal won the quarterfinal earlier this week, but they came through in the last four.

After choosing to bowl first, Gaikwad was followed by the spinners, who held Bangladesh to 96/9 in 20 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was afterwards lost by India early in the chase before Tilak and Gaikwad started battering Bangladeshi bowlers all over the field.

India brought down the mark in only 9.2 overs as Gaikwad struck 40 not out and Tilak stayed undefeated on 55 off 26.
