Will Imad Wasim Play in the World Twenty-20 Cup? PCB Requests All-Rounder To Rethink Retirement Following PSL Outcome

New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board has requested all-rounder Imad Wasim to rethink retiring from international cricket and participate in the T20 World Cup, which is set to begin in June in the USA and the West Indies.

Imad had an incredible PSL season. He was instrumental in Islamabad United’s third Pakistan Super League (PSL) championship. After taking five wickets to limit the Multan Sultans to 159/9, he returned to lead the run chase home with an undefeated 19* later in the game.

Imad was his team’s best player for the third time in this match. The left-handed player made three significant wickets against Quetta Gladiators in Eliminator 1, and he then put on another strong performance against Peshawar Zalmi in Eliminator 2, scoring an undefeated 59.

In November 2023, Imad declared his retirement from international cricket. Imad has been approached by Shadab Khan, the captain of Pakistan’s Test squad and colleague at Islamabad United, who hopes to see Imad participate in the major 20-over tournament this year.

Shadab was cited by the ICC as saying, “I want to; in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also told him that I didn’t want him to leave.” “Because players like him are what Pakistan needs.” God willing, if there is a conversation with him, maybe he will return, since Pakistan undoubtedly needs him given his performance in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), the impending World Cup, and his track record.

Imad hasn’t played in a Twenty20 international for Pakistan since taking two wickets against New Zealand in Rawalpindi in April of last year, but he has hinted at a possible comeback should captain Shaheen Afridi choose to ask for him back.

“I established a reputation for myself while playing for Pakistan, and I’ll be there for my country if it needs me.” If not, I don’t mind at all,” Imad said. “After I retired, Shaheen called, but I told him we would talk after PSL.”
