Lucknow: A month later, the family of police officer Sachin Rathi was getting ready for his wedding. There’s going to be a funeral now. The 30-year-old Uttar Pradesh police officer was shot during an hour-long standoff between law enforcement and a renowned criminal, and he later passed away from his wounds.

Rathi was a member of a four-person police team sent to arrest Ashok Yadav from his Kannauj residence. Yadav is a murder suspect sought in at least 20 instances. A surprise was in store for them. After trying to flee, Ashok Yadav and his son Abhay started shooting at the police. It was a shot to Rathi’s thigh.

The police party requested reinforcements while under intense fire. Police from at least four police stations showed up at the scene shortly after. Following a roughly hour-long exchange, the father and son Yadav were placed under arrest. As they attempted to escape during the firefight, they were hit in the leg.

After being shot, Rathi was taken to a hospital in Kanpur. The young officer had lost a significant amount of blood and passed away after midnight.

Rathi, who was born in Muzaffarnagar, enlisted in the police service in 2019. On February 5, he was to wed a constable lady. The family is now in grief, having just finished planning the wedding festivities.
