Akhilesh Yadav said he would only attend the Nyay Yatra if the Samajwadi Party’s offer of 17 seats to the Congress in Uttar Pradesh is accepted

The Samajwadi Party said on Monday that the Congress has been promised 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. The party also stated that Akhilesh Yadav, the party’s leader, will only participate in the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Raebareli if the plan is approved.

“We have extended to the Congress our last offer of 17 Lok Sabha seats. Akhilesh Yadav’s attendance at the Nyay Yatra in Raebareli on Tuesday is contingent upon their approval, the main spokesman for the Samajwadi Party, Rajendra Chaudhary, said PTI.

But he wouldn’t say which seats the Congress was promised.

On Monday, the Gandhi-led yatra will travel through Amethi. After that, it will reach Raebareli, which the leader of the Samajwadi Party had already said he will join.

Parts leader Mallikarjun Kharge will join the Amethi yatra, which is now in Pratapgarh, according to a statement released by the Congress on Sunday.

Earlier, the Samajwadi Party had promised the established party 11 seats, but the state Congress unit had insisted on a larger number.

The head of the Congress’s branch in Uttar Pradesh, Ajay Rai, had previously said that the party ought to get the twenty or so seats it had won in the national elections in 2009.

Within the opposition INDIA alliance, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party are allies.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh, the Congress only managed to win the Raebareli seat. With eighty, the state sends the most Members of Parliament to Parliament.
