Before it opens for business, the Jama Masjid metro station in Agra has a new name

In Agra, considerable preparations are in place for the soon-to-be metro train operations. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename the Jama Masjid metro station to Mankameshwar metro station, in honor of the neighboring old Mankameshwar Temple, even though the names of all the metro stations were revealed before the project launch.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s orders have already been followed, as UPMRC Deputy General Manager Panchanan Mishra revealed in an interview with India Today, and the new name is already displayed on all signs at and around the station.

He clarified that six of the stations are on the priority route and there are 13 stations overall on the first Agra metro track. Jama Masjid was the sixth and last station on the priority corridor, while Tajmahal East Gate is the first stop on this route. The Mankameshwar Station is the new name for it.

Although Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that the name change will occur in July 2022, it was actually put into effect a few days ahead to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February opening of the Agra Metro’s priority track.
