LIGHT UP: 11,000 employment would be created by a 48k crore renewable energy investment

Lucknow: Private businesses have committed to investing Rs 47,981 crore in pump storage hydropower and solar power projects as Uttar Pradesh embraces contemporary renewable energy. It is anticipated that this investment would produce 9,470 MW of electricity and provide jobs for around 10,940 people.

In the Sonbhadra area, three businesses—Torrent Power Limited, Greenko Group, and JSW Energy Limited—will install pump storage hydropower units.

Furthermore, microgrid solar power plants will be installed in communities all around the state by TP Renewable Microgrid (Tata Power Limited).
Eight pump storage hydropower (PSH) units—six in Sonbhadra, two in Mirzapur, and one in Chandauli—were previously authorized by the Uttar Pradesh government. 13,250 MW of electricity are anticipated to be produced by these eight PSH units.

The Adwa and Musakhand dams will provide water for the Mirzapur and Chandauli projects, respectively, while the Sone River will provide water for the Sonbhadra project. PSH is a triple threat in the field of renewable energy. First of all, it’s remarkably inexpensive, with cheap initial and storage expenses, making it a viable choice for broader use. Second, it lives up to its moniker as a “water battery” as it has very little negative environmental effect. Finally, a closed-loop pump-storage system is used in this project to further minimize any possible environmental impact. PSH, in summary, provides an affordable, ecological, and ethical answer to our energy need.

Most notably, Greenko’s 3600 MW PSH plant in Sonbhadra is expected to alter the game and have a favorable effect on the neighboring communities. Additionally, via CSR initiatives, Torrent Power’s 1750 MW facility will support the development of the surrounding area.
Overall, with its advantages for the environment and the economy, this project is a major step towards Uttar Pradesh’s embrace of renewable energy.
