Samajwadi Party has joined by BSP leader and former UP MLA Shah Alam, also known as Guddu Jamali

On Wednesday, Guddu Jamali, a former Uttar Pradesh MLA and leader of the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP), joined the Samajwadi Party. Jamali, an Azamgarh MLA from the Mubarakpur seat twice (in 2012 and 2017), is well-liked in the district.
On a BSP ticket, he has run in the Azamgarh Lok Sabha by-elections in 2014 and 2022 against SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, respectively.

“Today, I congratulate Shah Alam Guddu and his supporters,” Akhilesh Yadav said.Similar to ‘Samudra Manthan,’ ‘Samvidhan Manthan’ will be the candidate in this election. We are pleased with the growth of the PDA family and will cooperate to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.”

Jamali received 2,66,210 votes from the constituency in the 2022 by-election, presumably thanks to Muslim voters. With 3.12 lakh votes, BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirhua defeated SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav with 3.04 lakh votes.

Additionally, Jamali received around 2.66 lakh votes from Azamgarh and finished third in the 2014 election. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the SP, won the seat with 3.40 lakh votes.

Dharmendra Yadav has been given responsibility for both the Kannauj and Azamgarh seats by the SP, which has not yet announced a candidate for either.
