In a jab at Robert Vadra, Maneka Gandhi claims that “country has moved ahead of son-in-laws.”

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Sultanpur-based Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Maneka Gandhi has responded to rumors that entrepreneur Robert Vadra would run for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Maneka Gandhi mocked Robert Vadra in an interview with India TV, stating that the nation had gone beyond son-in-laws. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress, is married to Robert Vadra.

Maneka Gandhi said that she would not be commenting on the BJP’s choice to not field Varun Gandhi.

Varun Gandhi ran in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Pilibhit seat in Uttar Pradesh.

On a Janata Dal ticket, Maneka Gandhi won the seat in 1989. She lost it in 1991 but gained it again in 1996. In 1998 and 1999, she was elected as an independent and once again won the seat. As a BJP candidate, she won the seat in 2004 as well as in 2014.

As the BJP’s candidate in Sultanpur in 2019, she is running for reelection.

In 2009 and 2019, Varun Gandhi, who was running as a BJP candidate, won the seat.

The chief of one of the nearby villages, Baburam Lodhi, stated: “Varun Gandhi has a long and close relationship with Pilibhit. The heartfelt letter he sent after his denial of the seat’s nomination captured this closeness.”

In an impassioned letter to his constituents, Varun Gandhi promised that his bond with them would last until the day he passed away. Above all political considerations, the sitting MP said, his connection with Pilibhit is based on love and trust.

Despite the fact that Jitin Prasada, the BJP’s nominee from Pilibhit, says he has the backing of the whole party, residents say many close to Varun are not pleased with the BJP’s choice. Prasada hasn’t said anything about it up to this point.

He poses as a representative of Prime Minister Modi at public gatherings and asks for votes on the PM’s behalf.

BJP MLAs from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat, Sanjay Gangwar, Baburam Paswan, Vivek Verma, and Swami Prakhashanand, proposed Prasada’s nomination papers as a sign of support.
