The plan to build two additional prisons in Hathras and Kushinagar was approved by the U.P. government

To reduce congestion in overcrowded state prisons, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday accepted a plan to build two additional jails in Hathras and Kushinagar.

To be aware of, there are 1,19,526 inmates in UP prisons as opposed to the authorised 64,223 detainees.

The proposal to transfer 2.00 hectares of land from Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Veterinary Science University to the public works department (PWD) for the construction of a Circuit House with top-notch amenities for VVIPs in Mathura was also approved at the meeting of the state cabinet, which was presided over by chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

According to an official press statement, the Hathras inmates are currently being held in the jail in Aligarh, which is around 45 km away. As a result, the Aligarh Prison had 4070 people incarcerated there instead of the authorised 1178, causing overpopulation. It will cost 184.94 crore to build a new jail in Hathras with a capacity for 1026 inmates. Additionally, a plan to build a new prison in Kushinagar with enough for 1000 convicts was authorised.

The state cabinet voted to provide the prisons department free use of a total of.781 hectares of land from several departments, including revenue (.491 hectares), PWD (.068 hectares), and irrigation and water resources (.222 hectares).

The request to purchase more property for the growth of tourism in the Chitrakoot neighbourhood, near to the Ranipur Tiger Reserve in the Bundelkhand region, was accepted by the state cabinet. Surya Pratap Shahi, the minister for prisons, claims that the creation of tourist infrastructure in the Ranipur Tiger Reserve, the fourth tiger reserve in Uttar Pradesh (UP) after Dudhwa, Amangarh, and Pilibhit, would boost the socioeconomic standing of the local populace.

SR Road, Shahbad-Rampur

A proposal for spending 205.36 crore for the enlargement and beautification of 57.592 km of the Shahbad-Rampur route (state highway number 144) in Rampur was also accepted by the state cabinet.

Money for children in shelter homes rose

The Mission Vatsalya Yojana request to enhance the amount spent on upkeep of children living in NGO-run homes from 2000 to 4,000 per kid per month was approved by the state cabinet.

Fourth-class personnel

A proposal to hire 267 regular fourth-class workers of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam in urban local bodies based on body shopping was accepted by the state cabinet. The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam will spend less money on the excess workers as a result of this.

The Uttar Pradesh Engineering Service (Irrigation Department) (Group A) (Sixth Amendment) Rules 2023 have been passed by the state cabinet. According to the current regulations, superintending engineers are promoted to chief engineers in the year they reach 25 years of service and one year as a superintending engineer. The state cabinet has voted to reduce the 25-year service requirement to 22 years.

The draught of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (seventh amendment) Ordinance 2023, which amends the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act-2019, has been accepted by the state cabinet. It would allow the establishment of the TS Mishra University in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and the subsequent issuance of a letter of intent.

A plan to tear down the existing structures on the extra land seized for the construction of public amenities in the Ma Vindhyaavaasini Devi Corridor expansion/beautification project was authorised by the state cabinet. It authorised spending 63.05 lakh rupees for demolition, waste removal, etc. Additionally, a plan to remove 13 structures at Raja Pratap Bahadur Hospital Pratapgarh was accepted.
