UP CM Requests Public Support for Planting 35 Million Saplings

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, asked for assistance from the populace on Wednesday in order to meet the goal of planting 35 crore saplings in the state during a plantation campaign. In accordance with this, he said at a meeting here that “we will all together plant 30 crore saplings while on Independence Day, the target is to plant five crore saplings.”

Without support from the public, this initiative will fail. All public officials have a duty to persuade the locals in their districts to participate in this crucial initiative, the speaker stated.

Through a webinar, the chief minister spoke with MLAs, MPs, village chiefs, and leaders of area, district, and city panchayats, as well as members of municipal councils and municipal corporations, to learn more about the preparations.

According to him, the state government has planted more than 135 crore seedlings over the last six years, placing a high premium on environmental conservation. Only with widespread public support was this huge tree planting project made feasible. The chief minister expressed happiness that 80% of these plants are still alive.

He said that the state’s objective is to enhance the total green space from 9% at now to 15% by 2026–2027. According to him, the state’s total green area is continually growing as a result of significant public collaboration. “To meet this goal, 175 crore saplings must be planted and safeguarded throughout the course of the following five years. Everyone must make an effort to achieve this aim. To do this, it is necessary to spread the idea that “planting trees saves trees,” he stated.
