UP: Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Raping Young Dalit Girl

A man was given a 20-year jail term by a municipal court here on Friday for raping an 11-year-old Dalit girl in 2019.

Varun Mohit Nigam, an Additional Sessional Judge under the POCSO Act, found Jai Singh Yadav guilty and assessed him a fine of Rs. 1 lakh.

Sant Pratap Singh, a special government lawyer (POCSO Act), said Jai Singh Yadav sexually assaulted the girl in a hamlet near the Baundi police station in January 2019.

A case was opened at the police station based on the father of the girl’s allegation. The chargesheet was submitted to the court on March 26, 2021, he stated.

The prosecution asserts that the prisoner was 17 years old at the time of the occurrence.
