A New York burglar poses as an Amazon employee and steals jewelry and cash totaling Rs. 29 lakh

The New York Police Department is searching for a serial burglar who has been breaking into homes in a number of Queens neighborhoods. According to the authorities, the burglar enters residential premises by posing as an Amazon employee in order to avoid being detected. Then he takes money and other things by breaking into houses. At least nine apartment break-ins in Astoria, Sunnyside, and Long Island City have been connected to the suspect. During these nine robberies, he has taken money, jewelry, and other items totaling $32,000 (Rs 29 lakh).

The suspect is seen wearing an Amazon vest on a CCTV video that the NYPD published, just before he walks through the front door of a property. Sunnyside resident 35-year-old Estrla Islas is one of the robbery victims. The single mother told FOX 5 New York that her bathroom window was used by the intruder to enter her residence. After searching her flat, he stole “$9,000 in cash” (about Rs 7.5 lakh). This sum was saved by Islas for the future needs of her 12-year-old daughter.

The serial thief started his rampage in January. The most recent incident was reported on March 5, when the suspect smashed through a window of a home on Sunnyside’s Skillman Avenue. He took around $200 (about Rs 16,000) in cash and $6,500 (roughly Rs 5.4 lakh) in jewelry from the residence.

There have been other incidents in New York City when thieves have committed crimes donning the uniforms of Amazon delivery personnel. A gang of armed men broke into a residence on March 2, rounded up individuals, and stole their money. The event happened in the northern suburb of Newburgh, which is part of New York City.

According to NBC New York, a guy posing as an Amazon delivery representative knocked on the door to initiate the home invasion. He informed the homeowner that he required a signature to confirm the delivery while he was holding a parcel. The thief forced his way into the house when the homeowner opened the door. With that, he produced a pistol, and his three comrades came inside. They carried firearms and wore masks.

Everyone in the home was summoned out of one location by the armed thieves, who then demanded money and valuables. The thieves took their riches and locked everyone in the basement of the home. During the event, no injuries were recorded.
