Priest in Bengaluru arrested after using Sudha Murty’s name to collect Rs 5 Lakh

The police detained a priest from Bengaluru’s Malleshwaram after he illegally obtained Rs 5 lakh by impersonating Infosys foundation chair Sudha Murty’s identity. Arun Kumar, a 34-year-old priest, has been named. He misrepresented Murty’s attendance as the primary guest at a Kannada Koota function in California. Kumar was only taken into custody when the Jayanagar police opened an inquiry into a cybercrime case. This relates to a fraud in which two ladies were detained in connection with two different instances in which Murty’s identity was used. Following an inquiry, it was discovered that Kumar was the mastermind of both schemes.

Assuring Murty’s attendance as the primary guest at their 50th anniversary celebration, Kumar conned a group from the Kannada Koota of Northern California out of Rs 5 lakh. The author, though, had already turned down the group’s offer back in April. She was guaranteed of being there by a lady who identified herself as a member of the philanthropist’s staff.

Pictures and recordings identifying Murty as the main guest made the incident public.

Kumar has admitted to defrauding the organizers and taking an advance of Rs 5 lakh.

Two ladies were arrested in Bengaluru earlier in the scheme for allegedly defrauding customers by using Sudha Murty, the chairwoman of the Infosys Foundation,’s name and image. They were arrested when Mamata Sanjay, Murty’s executive assistant, reported them. Lavanya and Shruti were named as the defendants.

Murty is a well-known social worker, philanthropist, and author of more than 150 books. She is wed to N R Narayana Murthy, the other co-founder of Infosys. She is renowned for her humility despite having so many influential roles in society. Her everyday actions reveal her innate simplicity.
