According to what we know, this 1992 image was the first to be uploaded to the internet

Through the use of social media, email, and other messaging apps, the internet has revolutionized and shrunk the globe, facilitating instantaneous connections with individuals. In addition to facilitating communication, social media has made it easier to capture and share our happiest moments via images and videos. Speaking of the images that are posted online, are you aware of the very first image that was posted there?

The band Les Horribles Cernettes, or the female parody group Horrible CERN Girls, was included in the first picture to be posted online, according to a CBS News story. According to the report, on July 18, 1992, this first image was submitted. In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Silvano de Gennaro, the band’s composer and photographer, refuted this story. Silvano said that the story is untrue and that it is hard to determine which was the very first image posted on the website developed by computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee. The shot of Les Horribles Cernettes was taken during the CERN Hardronic Festival.

Based in a northwest neighborhood of Geneva, Switzerland, Cern employs thousands of people, according to information on the Metro. These professionals come from all around the globe and include scientists and office workers. Living in Cern, according to Silvano’s wife Michele, is like residing in a small, cosmopolitan city complete with eateries, kindergartens, coffee shops, and bars. She claims that a bustling social scene also comes along with these amenities.

Berners-Lee, Silvano’s coworker, made the decision to make a website at that time that included a description of some of the extracurricular activities offered at Cern. The person who selected an image of the Cernettes band to add information about the organization’s music club, of which he was a member, was his intern. According to Silvano, “there was not strictly physics in the way it was the first picture.” It demonstrated that both life and artists existed. He said that if it wasn’t the first image posted online, it could still be referred to as “the picture that opened the web to the world.”

Michele said that until she was called by the media in 2022, she was unaware of the type of effect that this shot would have.
