After Santa Cruz police in the US warn surfers of a “furry menace,” online community members support the “Sea Otter”

“It’s wrong to steal,” is something that everyone must have heard either at home or in school. Even if someone had never been taught this basic way, they must have figured out on their own how important it is. But what if it’s a living creature? Animals can be tough in some ways, but they can only be tough if they are pets. So let’s move on to a more common question: what if the thief is a wild animal? What do you think? What exactly CAN you do?

It seems that when the Santa Cruz Police faced the same problem, they went on their Facebook page to warn people about the small fuzzy threat. The accused in this case is a sea otter. The furry animal has been seen scratching or biting the surfboards of surfers in the water four times so far.

“Watch Out, West Cliff Surfers!” said the description of a post that was shared. The area has a sea otter that is very mean and bites, scratches, and climbs on surfboards. There have been four times where otters and surfers have met in Santa Cruz. “The sea otter is on the radar of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and a team of experts is working to catch and move it,” the police department told the surfers.

But people soon spoke up and said that it was clear that the animal was wild, and they were angry about the choice to “relocate” it. Netizens also said that the otter is just “living in its own habitat” and that people are the ones who are breaking into the otter’s home.

A person wrote, “I think it’s time to catch the surfers and move them.” Another person who agreed with the otter said, “It’s their home, and the surfers are invading their space.” Why should the otter be moved? Surfers, move! There are other places to surf along our coast!”
