They performed an admirable act of honesty by returning a stash of 30 brand-new iPhone 14 Pros worth 210,000 yuan ($30,000) that they discovered in garbage bins in their apartment building. The Chai siblings, who are from Henan Province, described what happened on the morning of July 7.

While throwing out the garbage, the woman’s younger brother discovered the collection of iPhones. He immediately phoned his sister after making the find, and the two of them dug through the garbage cans until they found a total of 30 iPhones. They quickly alerted the authorities after realizing the importance of their discovery, which resulted in the removal of another phone from a garbage can outside their building.

Police investigations that followed helped to identify where the stolen gadgets came from. It was discovered that the phones were unintentionally abandoned by a courier by the name of Liu who, while planning deliveries, piled five boxes, each holding ten brand-new iPhone 14 Pro models, atop the garbage cans on the street. Unfortunately, when he left, he had forgotten to get them. Liu was so distraught when he learned about the stolen phones because he was afraid of how much money they would cost him—350,000 yuan (US$50,000).

The cleaner, a middle-aged lady, was discovered to have removed the five boxes of phones two hours after Liu had put them there, according to the CCTV video and information from Liu’s boss at the courier station. She said that she had left all the phones in the garbage cans and had only taken out the cardboard boxes with the idea of selling them later. The housemaid was unable to reach the iPhone cases because she was unfamiliar with them, according to Liu’s boss. In agreement, the manager said, “She threw away phones worth 350,000 yuan for boxes worth 2 yuan.”

Additional missing phones were discovered as a result of further inquiries; seven more were discovered among the cleaner’s collected rubbish. Following the courier station’s placement of a notice next to the same garbage cans where the Chai siblings had made their amazing find, four other phones were found.
