This Oakland restaurant has a new policy about patrons who are unable to manage their alcohol

Having a few drinks at a social gathering is a typical and acceptable behavior. To prevent overindulgence, which may result in unpleasant circumstances like losing control and throwing up, it is crucial to do so properly. A restaurant in Oakland, California, adopted a regulation to discourage customers who can’t manage their alcohol as a novel solution to this problem. A sign that particularly warns fans of mimosas has been posted at the business for the last two years, according to a story.

Customers are reminded and cautioned by the notice, which is clearly displayed and reads: “Dear all mimosa lovers, Drink sensibly, and be aware of your boundaries. If you throw up in our common spaces, a $50 cleaning charge will be immediately added to your bill. I really appreciate your understanding. This program aims to reduce the discomfort and shame that result from drunk customers throwing up in public places.

Although the sign has proven to be a successful deterrent, the restaurant’s owner told CBS News that he hasn’t yet had to charge anybody the cleaning fee. He underlined that in the past, clearing up after such catastrophes was a difficult and taxing procedure. Additionally, his employees had to worry about the possibility of contracting COVID-19 while doing these cleaning jobs. Since the sign was put up, things have substantially changed for the better. “Now [customers] are aware that they must pay. They comprehend,” he said.

This creative solution to the problem of excessive drinking is not exclusive to Oakland; a restaurant in San Francisco has also implemented a regulation along these lines. According to People Magazine, the restaurant has informed brunch customers that they risk being charged $50 for any problems brought on by alcohol. The restaurant’s viewpoint is expressed via a note on the menu that reads, “Please Drink Responsibly. For any mishaps that arise as a consequence of drunkenness, there is a $50 cleaning cost per person, which is the responsibility of the whole group. The restaurant has seen a decrease in indoor vomiting episodes after enforcing this regulation. “It’s better, but every other week we get someone vomiting,” the owner said. They now step outdoors.
