Delhi Metro is overrun with RCB Chants as Ellyse Perry’s heroics propel the team to the WPL 2024 Final

What a show the cricket pitch produced, a real demonstration of the unpredictable nature of the game that gave one side devastating shocks and the other thrilling last-minute thrills! The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women defeated the defending champion Mumbai Indians (MI) in a thrilling elimination match to secure their spot in the highly anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Final, which is set for Sunday. The crowd erupted in cheers, screams, and undoubtedly happy tears.

“Congratulations RCB” was trending nationally on social media platforms, especially X (previously known as Twitter), as supporters broke into a flurry of applause, yells, and no doubt happy tears. The highlight of the show, however, was a video from the Delhi metro that showed delighted spectators yelling “RCB, RCB” and “Perry, Perry” in honor of star batsman Ellyse Perry, whose outstanding 66 off 50 innings proved crucial to the RCB’s incredible triumph.

RCB was unconcerned despite amassing a meager 135 runs in 20 overs, since they had a roster that included a WPL title and a skipper who was playing well. The RCB bowlers, however, rose to the occasion and denied MI any chance of dominance, realising the long-cherished dreams of their passionate supporters. They can now look forward to chanting “Ee Saala Cup Namde” in the forthcoming final against the Delhi Capitals on March 17. What happened later in the evening was pure magic.

However, the festivities have already begun in advance of the major finale, with the Delhi metro scene just serving as a prelude to what looks to be an incredible conclusion.

As for the contest itself, MI ran into a few difficulties right away. MI faltered halfway through their chase, after a strong start from openers Yastika Bhatia (19) and Hayley Matthews (15), and a brief appearance of 23 off 17 balls from Nat Sciver-Brunt. Still, even after losing three vital wickets, they seemed to have all the time in the world to win easily.

In the meantime, there was a brief hush among the RCB supporters there, and some discouraged people started to leave the stadium. The focus returned to Harmanpreet Kaur, who seemed ready to repeat her exploits from March 9 against the Gujarat Giants. Nevertheless, with 16 required from 12 balls, Kaur was dismissed for a heroic 33 off 30 balls after her bold shot off Shreyanka Patil’s delivery found Devine close to the long-on barrier.

Even so, MI was counting on Sajeevan Sajana, who was at the crease, to swing the match in their direction. However, destiny had other ideas, as Sajana was stumped when her bold swing missed the target. But the drama didn’t stop there.

Asha Sobhana, who had bowled only one over before, was given the last over by RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana in an unexpected decision. Sobhana’s skill was evident despite the unorthodox choice, as she outwitted Pooja Vastrakar with her leg-break, ending MI’s season-long campaign abruptly.

The atmosphere at RCB was palpable as they were closing in on victory, and supporters were praising the team’s great all-around player, Ellyse Perry, who had stunned everyone with her incredible comeback after her best-ever WPL stint. The energy at Kotla was incredible, with fans wearing MI jerseys even joining in on the chorus of ‘RCB-RCB’ or ‘Perry-Perry’ for a good chunk of the match.
