Watch: An Old Delhi Rickshaw Puller Greets Visitors in Fluent English

Our amazement at the internet never ceases. While it might make us giggle uncontrollably at times, it can also help us realize some very essential things in life. It serves as a venue for individuals to display their abilities as well. A large number of people from impoverished origins are using the internet to showcase their abilities in a variety of professions. When we come across such stuff in our virtual scrolling, it’s a stark reminder that these impoverished individuals might have accomplished much more if they had been given the chance. Similar ideas are supported by a widely shared video of a rickshaw worker at Delhi’s Jama Masjid conversing with visitors in perfect English.

An elderly UK tourist couple were spotted conversing to a rickshaw driver in English in a now-famous video that went viral on X, previously Twitter. The pair traveled to Delhi to see Jama Masjid, one of the most famous mosques in the area. The rickshaw puller patiently described the ins and outs of the sacred site to them as they sat in the rickshaw. The youth was overheard describing Jama Masjid as one of the largest mosques in India, with “narrow” alleys strewn throughout. He encouraged the visitors to take as many photos and purchase as they pleased.

The pair was also told by the rickshaw puller about the area’s well-known Spice Market, which is filled with stores offering an assortment of Indian spices. He instructed them to explore the region and snap images of the location. The rickshaw driver, referring to his car as a “helicopter,” deduced that they could get back on the rickshaw after exploring the area. The dude talked in perfect English at all times. Despite the fact that he spoke in short bursts, his lucidity, flow, and understandability were excellent.

The rickshaw puller’s fluency in English was praised by X users. “If I had known this, I too would have been answering the British in their own language,” one report said. One commenter said, “Very beautiful.”

Over 35,100 people have seen the movie on X thus far, and counting.
