Watch: Rottweiler is welcomed by an Indian family with aarti, and internet users are adoring this gesture

In India, the custom of performing an Aarti to welcome a new family member has great cultural importance and is a beloved custom in many communities.

This ancient custom entails reciting prayers and calling out blessings via a ceremonial Aarti, in which the person or god being greeted is encircled by a tray holding candles or a diya. The Aarti is a symbol of protection, prosperity, and auspiciousness that represents the respect and tenderness with which the new member is welcomed into the family.

An adorable video that went viral on X featured an Indian family doing the customary Aarti rite to greet a new dog. Invoking blessings and protection before letting the furry friend into their house, a mother performs the Aarti as a youngster lovingly caresses the cute dog in the video. The custom is enhanced when the lady places Tika, a customary red mark, on the puppy’s forehead, signifying good fortune and the kinship between the family and their newest addition.

The video has received over a million views on the microblogging site since it was posted. Many others expressed their well-wishes in the comments area.

“This is so adorable – I love it:).” said one person. “I bless you, my little doggie friend. May God be with you,” another person said. “Seems like he wanted to be a buddhist,” a third person said. A fourth said, “Oh how sliced.”
