After five additional dead are recovered, the toll from the Odisha boat capsize climbs to seven

Five additional remains were recovered on Saturday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the boat capsize in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha to seven, according to a senior official.

Five additional victims were found in the Mahanadi River by members of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and the fire department, who conducted a search and rescue effort as soon as the boat overturned on Friday night, he added.

The official said, “Five more bodies were recovered from the river’s Hirakud reservoir.” Every dead individual was from the nearby Chhattisgarh region of Kharseni.

The tragedy happened as around fifty travelers from the neighboring state got back into the boat after visiting a temple in the Bargarh district of Odisha’s Patharseni Kuda.

According to a police official, the boat overturned just as it was about to arrive at Sarada Ghat in the Rengali police station in the Jharsuguda district.
