An irritated botanist complains to authorities about lights on trees

Kolhapur: In a letter to the KMC tree authority on Saturday, senior botanist Dr. Madhukar Bachulkar demanded action against those who place electric lights on trees in an attempt to draw in consumers. He claimed that lights had an impact on the life and breeding cycles of plants and insects.

The local government has to send notifications and take down the electric lines since this damages the trees.
He also said that the matter would be brought up at the next tree authority committee meeting.

“In addition to contributing to light pollution due to lighting, these electric lights placed over trees have negative effects on birds and insects that depend on them, affect tree growth, increase the risk of unseasonal defoliation, distract insects, and negatively impact their ability to reproduce,” the senior botanist said.
