caught with Rs. 1 lakh in unauthorised funds

During a late-night search at a naka close to the Golden Gate in this city, the municipal police found unaccounted cash totaling Rs 1 lakh from two individuals.

The two were identified as Gurinder Singh and Parkashdeep Singh, who both lived in the Mohali village of Balongi.

Although the incidence was verified, Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that neither of the two could provide a suitable response to police questions. Yesterday evening, at eight o’clock, they were caught at the naka. They were taken into judicial custody and placed under arrest under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC.

When the police pulled over the suspects to conduct a check, they were driving a Maruti Ciaz. The sum was found by the authorities during a search, but the residents were unable to provide any documentation or provide adequate answers to their questions. The police then confiscated the money and notified the income tax department as well.

“We have notified other authorities, including the income tax agency, about the unaccounted cash that was recovered from the two. The ADCP said that further research is being done.

According to preliminary investigations, they were also the subject of an NDPS complaint that was purportedly filed in Mohali.

In anticipation of the Lok Sabha elections, the municipal police and paramilitary forces have installed a permanent naka at the Golden Gate entry here to provide ongoing security and vigilance.
