In the current Archery World Cup, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma’s compound mixed team guaranteed India a fourth gold as they advanced to the final here on Friday.

In the semi-final, the world-ranked Indians defeated Lot Maximo Mendez Ortiz and Andrea Becerra of Mexico 155–151, conceding just five points in the process.

On Saturday, they will play the gold-medal match against Estonia, who are rated lower. The women’s compound team, of which Jyothi is a part of, advanced to the final on Wednesday.

The world number three and gold medalist from the Asian Games, Jyothi, also earned a semifinal position in the solo division on Thursday, putting her in the running for a hat-trick of top podium finishes.

Indian archers are vying for two medals in the compound individual events, where Jyothi and Priyansh have advanced to the semifinals. Overall, they have qualified for four finals, all in team events.

In the compound men’s, women’s, mixed divisions, and men’s recurve events, Indian teams have advanced to the gold medal round.

Later in the day is when the recurve individual category elimination round is scheduled to start.

After receiving a bye in the first round, the second-seeded Indian duo of Jyothi and Verma eliminated the lower-ranked Australian duo of Geogina Graham and Brandon Hawes by eight points with a perfect 160 out of 160.

The Indian duo then easily defeated Mariya Shkolna and Gilles Seywert of Luxembourg, placed 10th, dropping only five points from 16 arrows to advance to the semi-finals with a 155-151 victory.

The Indians were down early in the semi-final as Mendez Ortiz and Andrea combined for three 10s and one nine to win the first end 39–38.

Jyothi and Verma dropped one point to take the lead, but the Mexicans sneaked in the following round of arrows.

In the last round, the Mexicans made another mistake, which allowed the Indians to expand their advantage by three points.

In the fourth end, Jyothi and Verma secured the deal with a flawless 40.
