Congress said the EC is delaying approving regular development activities in Himachal Pradesh

Today, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi accused the Election Commission (EC) of impeding the state’s development efforts by refusing to provide the go-ahead to complete these projects. “Of the 34 cases pertaining to different departments, 27 cases have been waiting for permission from the EC for an extended period of time,” he said.

Speaking at a news conference held here today, Negi said that the model code of conduct was to blame for the annual halt to crucial operations. Road and other construction work is done in various sections of the state according on the weather. These works are only accessible for a brief period of time. People could have to incur losses if these projects are not finished by the deadline, he warned.

According to Negi, the administration had also asked the EC for approval to schedule appointments even though all procedures had been completed prior to the release of the model code of conduct. The tender intended to be issued for the purchase of benches and desks for schools has been postponed. In a similar vein, Negi said that the government is unable to fill the open teaching positions.

Given the state’s geographic circumstances, Negi implored the Election Commission to let the administration to finish all outstanding public works projects.
