On April 26, PBKS stunned KKR with the most successful chase in T20 history, earning the most sixes by a team in the IPL 2024

At match 42 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, April 26, Punjab Kings (PBKS) startled Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with the most successful run-chase in T20 history, making significant progress in the competition for the most sixes by a team in the Indian Premier League (2024).

To move PBKS above 262 and their sixes to 85, Jonny Bairstow (108* off 48 balls) and Shashank Singh (68* off 28 balls) struck 9 and 8 sixes, respectively. Prabhsimran Singh hit 5 sixes and Rilee Rossouw hit 2 maximums.

Before PBKS topped the mark with eight wickets remaining, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine helped KKR achieve the highest total at Eden Gardens. Phil Salt struck six sixes, while Narine hit four maximums.

With 87 maximum sixes this season, KKR is now third among teams with the most sixes by a team, thanks to Shreyas Iyer (3 sixes), Venkatesh Iyer (2 sixes), Andre Russell (2 sixes), and Ramandeep Singh (1 six).

With 42 matches remaining in this edition of the IPL, nearly 750 sixes have been hit so far in the current season, suggesting that the record for most sixes in an IPL season may be broken. The previous year’s 74-game season set a record with 1124 sixes.

While Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) made progress in the battle of the sixes earlier in the week, leaders Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved a century of sixes. After IPL 2024 Match 42 between KKR and PBKS, here is a look of the most sixes struck by a side in the league:

The Mumbai Indians presently hold that record, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru coming in second with nearly 1500 sixes. Over 1400 sixes have been struck by the Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders combined.

The Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the teams who have attained or are approaching 1000 points. The new teams, Gujarat Titans and LSG, have not yet reached the 300-point milestone.
