BIHAR

India collapsing

The new coalition administration headed by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar won the Assembly’s vote of confidence on Monday, a few weeks after he rejoined the NDA. Late last month, the JD(U) president made one of his famous U-turns and broke away from the Mahagathbandhan, which is made up of the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), to once again form an alliance with the BJP. Another blow to Lalu Yadav’s RJD came when three of its MLAs defected before of the vote of confidence. The Congress and the RJD are both members of the Opposition coalition INDIA, which is in terrible shape across the nation, not just in Bihar.

Veteran Congressman and former chief minister Ashok Chavan has joined the BJP in Maharashtra. Following the resignation of former MP Milind Deora last month, this is the grand old party’s second significant setback in the state. Chavan is most likely one of the Maharashtra-born BJP candidates for the Rajya Sabha. The Congress is unable to stop INDIA from losing momentum in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls as it is too busy battling its own problems. The alliance is disintegrating faster every day. It was established last year to provide the people with a strong alternative to the NDA.

Days after the Central Government awarded the Bharat Ratna to party head Jayant Chaudhary’s grandfather, former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Rashtriya Lok Dal has chosen to join the NDA. The Congress has failed to reach even a seat-sharing agreement with the Trinamool Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in West Bengal and Punjab, respectively, while the BJP is forming and dissolving coalitions with similar ease. The AAP is unilaterally giving the Congress just one Delhi seat. India won’t have a chance if the Congress lets things go out of hand.
