According to a report, iPhones may soon support satellite-powered voice calls and internet

With the iPhone 14 series, Apple debuted the new Emergency SOS via Satellite capability. If a user is lost or in need of assistance, they may reach emergency services without cellular coverage. This function has often been lauded for saving lives.

And now, according to PCMag, Apple’s partner Globalstar is indicating that further satellite-powered functions, such as phone calls and the internet, may soon be added to iPhones.

According to PCMag, T-Mobile and SpaceX will power satellite internet services for “unmodified” T-Mobile handsets in the FCC petition.

In its licensed spectrum, Globalstar stated its MSS (mobile satellite service) system will develop over time to enable an expanding range of direct-to-handset features and services. This implies that Globalstar and Apple may be collaborating to make satellite phone calls and internet access available for Apple devices.

Additionally, the article states that AT&T and AST SpaceMobile are “also working to enable satellite-powered voice calls and internet access to unmodified consumer smartphones.”

When people are out and about or are visiting an area with poor or no cellphone coverage, it would be quite simple to access the internet and keep in touch with loved ones if this were to happen.

Recently, Juana Reyes, a lady who injured her leg while trekking in Tujunga, was able to utilize the iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS by Satellite function to notify emergency personnel. The Apple Emergency SOS via Satellite feature has saved countless lives. She was in an isolated area without cell coverage.

Only a few areas, including the US, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK, provide the Emergency SOS by Satellite.
