AIS Declares the AIS Design Olympiad 5.0 Winners

The 5th edition of the “AIS Design Olympiad” had its winners announced with pride by Asahi India Glass Ltd. (AIS). The AIS Design Olympiad experienced a notable rise in participation this year from architectural institutions all throughout India. The competition ended in a gala finale on April 6, 2024, at the Taj, Santacruz, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, where the top 8 finalists gave presentations to a distinguished judging panel.

The AIS Design Olympiad is an initiative to bridge the gap between education and practical experience, and it is the brainchild of Asahi India Glass Ltd. (AIS), the country’s top integrated glass solutions provider and a major force in the automotive and value-added architectural glass segments. In a comparatively short amount of time, AIS Design Olympiad has established itself as a premier example of an industry-academia partnership.

Participants in AIS Design Olympiad 5.0 were encouraged to investigate and test cutting-edge building methods, materials, and technologies that have the potential to redefine conventional architecture and design.

It was suggested that participants consider how their ideas may address new issues, including resource depletion, rising urbanization, and climate change, as well as how they could provide efficient, sustainable solutions that could be modified to meet evolving demands.
Every student entry in the AIS Design Olympiad (ADO) was subjected to a rigorous evaluation procedure by eminent architects who served on regional and national judging panels across India. A group of prominent architects evaluated each zone separately, evaluating the North, South, West, Central, and East Zones.

A distinguished panel of national jurors, comprising architects Ar. Paul Moses from RSP, Bangalore; Ar. Avinash Nawathe from ANA Associates, Pune; Ar. Karl Wadia from Hafeez Contractor, Mumbai; and Ar. Vivek Bhole from Vivek Bhole Architects, Mumbai, judged the AIS Design Olympiad Final.

Rachna Sansad Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, was named the winner in the grand finale. The first runner-up was Deenbandhu Chotu Ram University of Science & Technology, Murthal, Sonipat, Haryana, while the second runner-up was SMEF Brick School of Architecture, Pune. In addition to receiving monetary awards, diplomas, and trophies from Asahi India Glass Ltd., the national and regional winners also had the chance to intern with prestigious architectural companies that were represented by the competition’s jury members.

“We are thrilled to announce the winners of AIS Design Olympiad, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of budding architects,” said Mr. Vikram Khanna, COO, Consumer Glass & Architectural Institutional Business, CMO – Asahi India Glass Ltd. in reference to AIS Design Olympiad 5.0. “Innovation.

Futuristic Design. Sustainable Architecture” was our overall concept for AIS Design Olympiad 5.0, and we are pleased of the accomplishments the students made with their concepts this year. We extend our sincere appreciation to the distinguished members of the jury panel for their careful evaluation. It was difficult to go through all of the designs submitted around the nation to choose the finest ones, so we appreciate the hard work put in by the judges from the regional and final rounds. We would like to congratulate each and every participant for their outstanding efforts. We anticipate an even more stimulating ADO 6.0 in the next year.”

“I have seen ADO grow from strength to strength in the last 5 years, and I congratulate AIS on the successful completion of the 5th edition of AIS Design Olympiad,” architect Vivek Bhole National jury ADO continued. Our goal is to prepare kids for the future by introducing them to difficult ideas. As I’ve previously said, I would advise any architecture student to advance their skills in order to succeed in the cutthroat industry. My sincere congratulations go out to all of the students and the AIS staff once again for this fantastic occasion.”

“The ADO 5.0 was a successful event; I am sure everyone is going back with one or more thoughts about sustainability and the future of architecture,” said Mr. Shailesh Ranjan, Business Head of Institutional Sales.
