Apple releases a fix for the data transfer bug, and the government issues a warning for iOS 17 users; update your new iPhone 15

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in India’s Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has just released a vulnerability notice with a warning for Apple customers who use a device running iOS, macOS, or watchOS and access the internet using the Safari browser.

Users of various versions of this program were warned by the national nodal agency for computer security about issues ranging from:

– Apple iOS versions prior to 16.7 and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7 – Apple iOS versions prior to 17.0.1 and iPadOS versions prior to 17.0.1 – Apple Safari versions prior to 16.6.1 – Apple watchOS versions prior to 9.6.3 and 10.0.1 – Apple watchOS versions prior to 9.6.3 and 10.0.1

These vulnerabilities, which were given a ‘High’ severity rating remark on Friday, may provide hackers access to the device’s security system and the ability to run arbitrary code and elevate their own privileges. A “certificate validation issue” in the Security, Kernel, and WebKit components is the cause of the vulnerabilities.

These might be used by malicious parties to send “specially crafted” messages and carry out operations on the compromised device to breach security and steal private information.

How Can I Stay Safe?
Users of the aforementioned OS versions on iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook, and iMac devices are recommended to upgrade their browsers in order to implement the patch. Additionally, users must upgrade to the most recent version of the Safari browser.

In a similar development, Apple released a patch to address an issue that prevented customers from moving data to the new iPhone 15 series handsets.

Update for Apple iOS 17.0.2
A issue that stops users from uploading data from an iPhone during the setup process has been fixed with the release of this version. Apple said in the support article that the update “provides significant bug fixes, security updates, and fixes an issue that may prevent transferring data directly from another iPhone during setup.”
