Because the government of Bengaluru has outlawed the practice and the usage of sites that facilitate it, the once-simple and cost-effective trick of carpooling might now get you into trouble.

After receiving several complaints from the local cab drivers, Bengaluru’s transport authority made the stern rule. The taxi driver expressed worry about the situation and said that individuals have begun utilizing private automobiles with white number plates for commercial purposes, which is absolutely illegal and not acceptable even within the law, and that this is hurting the company.

Here’s how a high-ranking official responded to carpooling

Malikarju C, Additional Commissioner for Transport (Enforcement), said that private cars cannot be utilized for commercial reasons in response to the new law and carpooling activities in the city. Malikarju stated that if someone is caught breaking the guideline, they risk receiving harsh punishments or having their registration certificate revoked for a period of six months.

The public in Bengaluru still considers carpooling applications to be a handy form of transportation since it is less expensive, makes commuting simple, and offers them significant respite from traffic despite the introduction of harsh challans and other penalties.

Carpooling apps are prohibited in Mumbai as well.

Bengaluru is not the only city, though, to have cracked down on the practice.Similar actions were also taken in Mumbai, where the government outlawed the use of carpooling and bike-sharing smartphone apps at the beginning of this year.
