Designed in India Check Specifics of Mercedes-Benz GLE SUVs Shipped to Europe in FY23

Recently, Mercedes-Benz India sent a number of SUVs (sport utility vehicles) to Europe.

In the fiscal year 2022–2023, Mercedes-Benz GLE SUVs produced at its Chakan facility in Pune, Maharashtra, were exported, according to an exclusive report from Autocar Professional.

This disclosure coincides with the Indian government’s intensive efforts to begin negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the UK and Europe. The 20,000-unit-per-year Mercedes-Benz India facility in Chakan is reportedly running at 85 to 90 percent of capacity. In the last quarter, the operated in three shifts to accommodate the growing demand.

India has established itself as a high-quality manufacturing base worldwide and is being used as a model assembly base for the German carmaker. This is being taken advantage of for component sourcing. Furthermore, the export of Mercedes-Benz SUVs made in India might portend future developments in the post-FTA era.

India-Mercedes-Benz SUVS ENTRIED EUROPE

Mercedes-Benz India has obtained an export order for BR167 LHD automobiles intended for the European market, as per the company’s FY2023 financial statements. The body shop, paint shop, and assembly line’s preexisting production processes were repurposed to create these cars.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune, manufactures an extensive line of vehicles. According to Autocar India, a Mercedes-Benz India spokesman said, “The production network of Mercedes-Benz cars is flexible and efficient, enabling capacity to be utilised in accordance with global demand.”

The exported vehicle is believed to be the Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV. The significance of the production batch is shown by the fact that the manufacturing lines were adjusted to fit the order, even though the exact number of the batch of exports was not disclosed.

Mercedes-Benz is reportedly using its assembly plant in India to service global markets for the second time in the last five years. In order to meet the demand for the GLC SUV in North America, the German luxury carmaker temporarily moved the SUV from India, where it had a backup base, to North America in 2018.
