How Gaurav Teotia, a Tumbledry employee, Built A Rs 100 Crore Laundry Business In Four Years

To succeed in a market as large as India, you need a straightforward business concept and a well-thought-out implementation strategy. That’s precisely what businessman Gaurav Teotia achieved with his concept for Tumbledry, which provides dry cleaning and laundry services. Tumbledry, which was founded just four years ago, has already had a big influence on the sector, growing to be present in over 180 locations throughout the nation. According to DNA, the firm has big expansion aspirations and hopes to have more than 600 locations in the near future. Under the direction of CEO Gaurav Teotia, Tumbledry earned an excellent revenue of Rs 116 crore in the previous fiscal year.

Teotia began his adventure with Tumbledry in 2019, and within a short period of time, the business has seen extraordinary financial success. Teotia has degrees from IIT Dhanbad and IIM Ahmedabad. Tumbledry reported revenue of Rs 6.5 crore in FY 2019–2020, which increased to Rs 24.3 crore in FY 2021–2022. A revenue of Rs 116 crore, representing a remarkable growth rate of 377%, was recorded in the most recent financial year, which marked excellent achievement.

But before starting his own business, Teotia worked in a variety of fields to obtain knowledge. Teotia began his career at DRDO as a defense scientist who specialized in radar technology. Before transferring to IIM Ahmedabad, he worked on the SAR radar algorithm’s development.

Teotia worked for companies like Airtel and mobile phone manufacturer Lava after receiving his MBA. Teotia met his future co-founders Gaurav Nigam and Navin Chawla when he was a student at LAVA.

When Teotia and his co-founders were traveling in Southeast Asia, they saw a growing laundry industry, and this gave them the idea for Tumbledry. They recognized the lack of a structured laundry industry as the source of the Indian market’s deficit. They made the decision to fill the void and opened the first Tumbledry location in Noida.

Tumbledry anticipates rapid expansion and forecasts sales of Rs 225 crore for the fiscal year 2023–2024. The business intends to open 500 more locations in order to increase its market share and position itself as a major player in the laundry and dry-cleaning sector.
