In The Spotlight: According to Zomato CEO, “Pure Veg Mode” will be reversed in the event of unfavorable societal consequences

Following the introduction of the “Pure Veg Mode” service, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal faced criticism on social media. On Tuesday, he said that the meal delivery service would “roll it back in a heartbeat” if there were unfavorable societal consequences.

Goyal also attempted to soothe worries that some societies and RWAs could restrict Zomato’s regular fleet in a lengthy post published late at night on X.

Some societies and RWAs are said to be refusing to admit our normal fleet at this time. We’ll keep an eye out for any instances like this and collaborate with these RWAs to make sure it doesn’t happen.”

“We understand our social responsibility due to this change, and we will not back down from solving it when the need arises,” he said.

“Please note that this Pure Veg Mode, or the Pure Veg Fleet doesn’t serve or alienate any religious, or political preference,” he said.

Goyal went into more detail about the rationale behind the launch of the business’s “Pure Veg Mode” offering.

“But why was it necessary for us to divide the fleets? Because sometimes, in spite of everyone’s best efforts, food slips into the delivery boxes. In some situations, the prior order’s odor may permeate the subsequent order and cause it to smell like the prior order. We have to divide the fleet for veggie orders because of this,” the CEO of Zomato said.

He emphasized that delivery partners’ involvement in the new fleet would not be determined by their food choices, and that the new service strictly caters to dietary requirements regardless of a person’s caste or religion.

“I want to emphasize again that this function caters only to dietary preferences. And regardless of their caste or religion, I am aware of many customers who would never purchase meals from a restaurant that offers meat,” Goyal said.

In closing, he pledged that Zomato would reverse the Pure Veg Mode service if there are major unfavorable societal consequences.

“And I promise, that if we see any significant negative social repercussions of this change, we will roll it back in a heartbeat,” Goyal said.

The co-founder of Zomato said on Tuesday that a new service called “Pure Veg Mode” will be available to serve consumers who follow a strictly vegetarian diet.

Goyal added that the move was motivated by comments from vegetarian clients and that the online meal delivery service is also launching a “Pure Veg Fleet” in India for clients who adhere to a strictly vegetarian diet.

“India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we’ve gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled,” Goyal said in a number of postings on X.

“To solve for (sic) their dietary preferences, we are today, launching a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ along with a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on Zomato, for customers who have a 100% vegetarian dietary preference,” he said.

According to him, the corporation will only include a limited number of eateries that provide just vegetarian fare for the “Pure Veg Mode” and would keep out any businesses that serve non-vegetarian cuisine.

According to him, the Pure Veg Fleet will switch from using red delivery boxes to green ones.

Goyal said that these delivery workers would only pick up and deliver orders from eateries that provide only vegetarian food. They will not be handling any non-vegetarian dishes.

They also won’t bring the green delivery box inside non-vegetarian establishments.

“Only orders from these pure vegetarian restaurants will be fulfilled by our exclusive Pure Veg Fleet.

Thus, a non-vegetarian meal—or even a vegetarian meal provided by a non-vegetarian restaurant—will never be placed inside the green delivery box designated for our Pure Veg Fleet, the speaker said.
