Learn What RCS Support Is Coming To iPhones Next Year, Per Apple

According to reports, Apple plans to release a software upgrade for iPhones next year that would enable RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging in addition to GSM SMS and MMS and chat apps like Messenger. The European Union and other authorities, as well as rivals like Samsung and Google, are exerting pressure on the decision.

Users of Android and iPhones would be able to communicate cross-platform messages with ease and interoperability if RCS was included into iPhones. Apple now employs its own SMS/MMS and iMessage protocols. RCS conversations and iMessages are essentially two distinct messaging platforms. SMS/MMS is used to transmit messages between users of Apple iMessage and Google RCS conversations.

Prior to this, Apple was hesitant to use the RCS protocol in iPhone models. According to several reports, the CEO of Apple denied that the business would ever consider using this technology in its flagship phones.

Describe RCS Protocol.

Rich Communication Services, or RCS, offers a more advanced, rich messaging platform. Your communications are transmitted via the Rich Communication Services protocol over mobile data and Wi-fi when you utilize RCS conversations. Among the technological features are:

Tell you when a person is typing.

Provide a read receipt, which indicates when a message has been seen or received.

Use Wi-Fi and mobile data to send messages.

Permit the sharing of data and high-quality pictures.

When using the SMS/MMS protocol to transmit messages, these functions are accessible. Only when every participant in a discussion has RCS will RCS talks be enabled.

What distinguishes RCS from SMS/MMS and iMessage?

iMessage and SMS/MMS are the protocols that Apple has been employing up until now. Apple created the iMessage protocol, which enables users to exchange messages, images, or videos over Wi-Fi or cellular data networks to another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac. Up until now, Apple customers have used the SMS/MMS protocol to send messages to phones other than Apple phones.
